I heard about this fascinating treatment through my man. He is a combat veteran, fought to protect us after 9/11, and now receives therapy for PTSD. Being a veteran, they offer the Alpha-Stim Cranial Electrotherapy as a form of treatment for pain, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders. It uses Cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES), (also known as “electrosleep”, “transcranial electrotherapy” and by many other names), involves a form of treatment that sends low intensity microcurrent (under 1 milliampere) to the brain.
“In some cases, effects have been stable and permanent, suggesting that the electrical and chemical changes evoked by Alpha-Stim® technology have led to a durable re-tuning back to normal function.”Aplha-Stim
There are some studies out there on the topic and some look to be promising. Please google this and learn more about it. I personally would give it a try to see if it would improve any of my Bipolar symptoms… and my sleep. Anything is nearly worth a shot, especially if it could replace the use of medications.
Great! Innovations keep bringing improvement and making life more bearable, comfortable and enjoyable. Let’s keep adding value to ourselves to be able to make a difference while looking out for the solutions we require. Thanks for the clues.
Hi Miss Muse….believe it or not, I’ve done Alpha Stim! My physician recommended it based on the same premise as it was offered to your friend for PTSD. I had very mixed results that I wanted to pass along.
My insurance covered it so I hopped on board fast as I’m always looking for relief! I am guessing that I was too overzealous and did the moderate to maximum suggested time on the Alpha Stim which was too much for me. Gave me crazy brain fog and invoked some triggering types of feelings.
I like the science behind this product. I would absolutely recommend that you go slow, like snails pace slow with it. Use it less than suggested and space it out longer until you know your body’s reaction to it. I’d always wondered if long standing deep trauma might be treated differently than a trauma acquired in adulthood. Who knows? We may not have answers to all this at this point….
I’ve heard glowing reports from veterans and other trauma survivors so its probably worth a try….just wanted to pass that along.
Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I am eligible for medicare in october and its the first thing I want to look into. Hopefully it will work for me and I will heed your advice to take it slow.
Glad I found a thread for this. I just tried alpha-Stim with my therapist yesterday and at first I was in a terrible brain fog than it switched to horrible anxiety and now 24 hours later bad depression. I was using it only to treat my generalized anxiety disorder. I am so scared to try this again. I feel worse than I could have imagined. Far from a pleasant experience. I’m hoping and praying it goes away soon!!! I dont want to be stuck with this. Did you experience symptoms worsening before they got better??
It sounds like it is not the tool for you. Did they say this would happen and then give you any time frame that it will go away in?
